Handmade in Britain

Better sleep, better comfort, at a price that makes sense

Westend Beds deliver the temperature regulation, comfort, and deep sleep that only the finest natural materials can provide. Three models, all handmade in Britain using horsehair, lambswool, silk, and cotton. No foam. No synthetics. From around £6,000.

The bed Brent always wanted to offer

Brent Cooper has spent over 40 years in the luxury bed industry. He built the UK's best-performing Hastens showroom, then created Marshall & Stewart, which stands alongside the finest beds in the world. But one thing always bothered him: the benefits of natural materials were only available to people who could afford to spend £18,000 or more.

The gap that needed filling

For years, Hypnos offered premium ranges that contained horsehair. Brent stocked them. Customers loved them. Then Hypnos discontinued horsehair from those collections. The Regency and Royal Comfort ranges, including the popular St James and Clarence models, were gone. Suddenly, customers who wanted a natural horsehair bed but couldn't stretch to Marshall & Stewart had nowhere to go.

Brent's response was to fill that gap himself. Working with Burgess, one of Britain's most established bed manufacturers, he specified three mattresses from the ground up. Each one built with the same materials and the same principles that run through everything he does: horsehair, lambswool, cotton, and silk, hand-finished to a standard that most brands reserve for their very top ranges.

We wanted to make a bed with genuine natural horsehair that people could actually afford. That was the whole point.

Exclusive to Westend Bed Company

Westend Beds are not sold anywhere else. They exist only in our showroom, which means the price you see is the price you pay. There is no discounting by online competitors, no race to the bottom, and no pressure to cut corners. Every penny saved by cutting out the middleman goes into the bed itself or stays in your pocket.

What the finest natural materials do for your sleep

Temperature that regulates itself

The materials inside a Westend Bed work together to keep you at the right temperature all night. Warm in winter, cool in summer, without the clamminess of synthetic fibres. Lambswool regulates temperature naturally. Breathable cotton wicks moisture away from your body. Horsehair, the most resilient natural filling available, creates airflow through the mattress that no synthetic can replicate.

Most beds at this price point rely on synthetic fillings or wool alone. Wool is excellent, but it compresses under sustained weight. The natural fillings in a Westend Bed do not. That is why these beds feel as good in year five as they did in week one: the same comfort, the same responsiveness, the same support.

You will notice the difference within the first week. After a month, you will not want to sleep anywhere else.

Comfort that lasts

All three models use layers of natural materials throughout. The Supreme adds luxury silk and cashmere for an even finer feel. Every material is chosen for how it performs over years of nightly use, not just how it feels in a showroom. There is nothing synthetic in any of them.

Built by hand, the way beds used to be made

Close-up of natural materials and hand-stitching used in Westend Beds construction
01

Hand-teased horsehair

The horsehair in every Westend Bed is loose, long-stranded, and hand-teased onto the mattress. This is the traditional method: skilled hands separate and layer each strand to create consistent loft across the entire sleeping surface. Machine-processed hair clumps. Hand-teased hair breathes.

02

Genuine hand side-stitching

The Deluxe and Supreme models feature genuine hand side-stitching: four and five rows respectively. This is a slow, skilled process that creates a firm, supportive edge to the mattress. It means no roll-off, no sagging at the sides, and a sleeping surface that extends right to the edge of the bed.

03

Hand-tufted with wool tufts

Every mattress is hand-tufted using pure worsted wool tufts. Tufting holds the internal layers in place, preventing them from shifting over time. Wool tufts, rather than synthetic ones, ensure the tuft itself breathes and ages in harmony with the natural fillings around it.

04

Made in Britain by Burgess

Westend Beds are manufactured by Burgess, one of the UK's most respected bed makers. Every mattress carries the Handmade in Great Britain mark and comes with a 10-year warranty. Brent specified these beds personally, and they are made to his exact standards.

Natural materials at a price that makes sense

The Westend Beds range starts from around £6,000 and goes up to approximately £12,000. That puts a genuine horsehair bed within reach of anyone who takes their sleep seriously but cannot justify the price of a Marshall & Stewart.

Because we are the only retailer, there is no middleman markup. No distributor margin. No brand tax. The price you pay reflects the materials and the craftsmanship, nothing more. Brent will walk you through each model and help you find the right one for your body and your budget.

How Westend Beds sits alongside our other ranges

Westend Beds vs Marshall & Stewart

Marshall & Stewart is the finest bed we make, starting at £18,230 for the Diamond Collection. Westend Beds use the same philosophy of all-natural materials and handmade construction, at a lower price point. If you want the same quality of sleep, the same temperature regulation, and the same commitment to natural materials at a more accessible price, Westend Beds is exactly what Brent designed it to be.

Westend Beds vs Hypnos

Both are handmade in Britain using natural materials. The key difference is in what you feel when you lie down and how the bed performs over time. Every Westend Bed uses hand-teased horsehair, lambswool, and cotton to deliver temperature regulation and lasting comfort that hold up year after year. Hypnos no longer uses horsehair in most of their range. The price ranges overlap in places. The sleep experience does not.

Westend Beds vs Vispring

Vispring is a respected British brand with a wide range. Their lower to mid-range models sit at a similar price point to Westend Beds. The best way to compare them is to try both, and our showroom is one of the few places where you can do that in a single visit. Brent will walk you through the differences in materials, construction, and feel so you can make your own decision.

Not sure which brand is right?

That is exactly what Brent is here for. Come in and try them all. Lie on a Hypnos, then a Westend Bed, then a Marshall & Stewart. The differences are real and immediate. Brent will help you find the bed that fits your body, your sleep habits, and your budget. No appointment needed, but allow up to two hours.
