Sleep the way your body was meant to

Hypnos has been making beds by hand in the UK since 1904. We stock them because they do something most bed makers don't: they let your body shut down properly and get to deep sleep. That changes everything.

Why we stock Hypnos

Most people haven't bought a bed in 10 or 15 years. The industry has moved on enormously in that time, and Hypnos has been at the front of it. They've held a Royal Warrant since 1929 and they're still family-run, still making every bed to order in the UK.

We've stocked Hypnos for years because when someone walks into our showroom with a budget of £1,500 to £5,000, Hypnos consistently gives them a bed that genuinely improves how they sleep. Not marginally. Noticeably. The kind of improvement where your partner says you're a different person in the morning.

The kind of improvement where your partner says you're a different person in the morning.

Brent knows the range inside out

Brent has worked with Hypnos for decades. He knows the range inside out, he knows what each collection does differently, and he'll tell you honestly which one suits your body, your sleep habits, and your budget.

What sleeping on a Hypnos actually feels like

The first thing people notice is that they stop turning. Most people turn because their bed is creating pressure points, or because they're too hot, or because their body simply isn't being supported properly. A Hypnos mattress is built to hold your body so that your muscle groups can shut down completely. When that happens, you drift from light sleep into deep sleep without fighting for it.

Deep sleep is where everything that matters happens: your body repairs, your brain processes the day, your temperature regulates naturally. If your bed is working against you, keeping you in shallow sleep, making you turn every hour, you wake up feeling like you haven't slept at all. You're irritable, you're foggy, you tell people you're "not a morning person." When really, you just haven't hit deep sleep properly in years.

You're irritable, you're foggy, you tell people you're "not a morning person." When really, you just haven't hit deep sleep properly in years.

A well-chosen Hypnos bed changes that. Not because it's magic, but because the engineering and materials are doing what they're supposed to do: keeping you cool, wicking away moisture, supporting every part of your body without pressure.

Give it two weeks

It does take a week or two to adjust. Your body has spent years compensating for a bad bed, and it needs time to retrain. That's normal. After two weeks, you'll know.

How Hypnos beds are made

Cut-through of a Hypnos mattress showing the pocket-spring core and natural wool and cotton filling layers
01

Pocket-spring engineering

Every Hypnos mattress starts with the brand's own pocket-spring system. Each spring sits in its own fabric pocket, so when you move, the springs around your partner don't move with you. The springs are configured differently across collections to create distinct levels of support and comfort. But the springs are only the core. What goes on top of them is what you actually feel.

02

Natural fillings that work while you sleep

Hypnos uses wool, cotton, and in the higher ranges, blends that include cashmere. Wool is remarkable because it regulates your temperature throughout the night. As you heat up, it releases moisture and cools you down. As you cool, it insulates. Cotton adds softness and absorbs moisture. Together, they keep the sleeping surface dry and breathable. The average person loses about a pint of moisture every night. Natural fillings handle it. Foam traps it.

03

The whole bed, not just the mattress

Hypnos makes complete bed systems: mattresses, divan bases, headboards, pillows, toppers, and bedding. The base you choose changes how the mattress feels. A mattress on a sprung divan base will feel noticeably different from the same mattress on a platform top. We'll talk you through the combinations in the showroom so you get the right setup for your body.

04

Built to last, built responsibly

Hypnos builds every bed to order in the UK. The beds are 100% recyclable at end of life. These aren't marketing claims bolted on. They're built into how the company operates.

What our customers say

★★★★★

I visited this location to learn more about the Hypnos mattresses; well worth it to go in person vs comparing online. Simon was very thoughtful with his approach. I ended up committing to the investment the same day. He was so lovely and made my experience seamless!

Ana Tran C.
★★★★★

Very knowledgeable and no hard sell at any point. Worth every penny, including the survey to see if they could actually fit the bed into our house! We couldn't be happier with our new bed.

Kat A.
★★★★★

Anyone thinking of buying a Vispring, Harrison Spinks, Savoir or Hastens bed should check out Tréca, Hypnos and Marshall & Stewart at Westend. We had a bad experience with two defective Vispring mattresses and are so pleased we found this place.

From £1,495 for a complete Hypnos bed

The range runs from accessible pocket-sprung models through to premium organic collections. The sweet spot for most of our customers is somewhere between £2,000 and £4,000, but Brent will guide you based on what your body needs, not what your wallet suggests. We publish all our prices because we think you should know what things cost before you visit, not after.

How Hypnos sits alongside our other beds

Hypnos vs Marshall & Stewart

Marshall & Stewart is handmade by our own team, entirely from natural materials, with no foam and no synthetics anywhere in the build. It's a different level of craftsmanship and a different price bracket (from £18,230). Many customers come in expecting to buy a Hypnos and leave having tried a Marshall & Stewart, simply because the difference is so striking when you lie on them side by side.

Hypnos vs Tréca Paris

Tréca is a French maker with a focus on adjustable comfort and high design. Their patented suspension system offers motorised adjustment that Hypnos doesn't. If adjustability matters to you, Tréca is worth trying. If you want a traditional British-made bed with proven pocket-spring comfort, Hypnos is the stronger choice.

Frequently asked questions

In our experience, yes. A Hypnos bed at £2,000 to £3,000 will genuinely change how you sleep if you're coming from a tired mattress or a foam bed that's been trapping heat. The natural fillings, the pocket-spring support, and the build quality give you a bed that performs well for 10 to 15 years. Compare that to replacing a cheaper mattress every five years and the cost difference narrows considerably.

With proper care, 10 to 15 years. Hypnos guarantees the spring system for 10 years. The fillings will settle over time, which is natural and not a fault. Rotating the mattress monthly when new, then less frequently as it ages, keeps the settlement even. Adding a topper extends the mattress life significantly because the topper absorbs the nightly wear instead of the mattress surface.

Each collection uses different spring configurations and filling combinations to create a different feel. Some are firmer, some are softer, some have more natural filling for extra luxury. The names and specs can be confusing online. Brent's advice: forget the brochure and come and lie on them. Your body will tell you which one is right far more reliably than any product description.

Almost always, yes. The spring in your base has been supporting the weight of the mattress and two people for years. It's worked harder than the mattress has. Putting a new mattress on an old base is false economy. The new mattress will follow the contours of the worn base and feel like the old one within months. Buy the system: mattress and base together.

Yes. We have the full Hypnos range on display at our East Sheen showroom (215 Upper Richmond Road West, London SW14 8QT) and our King's Road showroom (638-640 King's Road, London SW6 2DU). Open Monday to Saturday, 9.30am to 5.30pm. No appointment needed, but allow up to two hours for a proper consultation.

This is the single biggest myth in the bed industry. Firm does not mean supportive. A firm mattress is designed for heavier people. If you weigh 50kg and you buy a firm mattress because you think it's "better for your back," you're likely making things worse. You need a mattress that lets your body sink in enough for every part of you to be in contact with the surface. When that happens, your muscles can release and your spine aligns naturally. Brent will assess your build and recommend the right tension for you.

Come in and try them

A two-hour consultation for a bed you'll sleep on for the next 10 to 15 years. That's a fair trade. No appointment needed. Wear something comfortable, bring an open mind, and let your body tell you what's right.
